Biography

Born in Düsseldorf in 1963, Orm Finnendahl studied Composition, Musicology and Computer Music in Berlin after some involvement in the Berlin experimental music scene. 1988/89 scholarship at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. 1995-98 continuing studies with Helmut Lachenmann in Stuttgart. Collaborations with ensembles specializing on contemporary music (Ensemble Modern, mosaik, recherche, Champ d'action, etc.) as well as with video and multi media artists, dancers and soloists (Palindrome, AlienNation, Burkhard Beins, etc.). Numerous awards and prizes, among them Kompositionspreis Stuttgart, Busoni Prize Berlin, CYNETart Award Dresden and Prix Ars Electronica Linz. CD Releases on Wergo and others. Orm Finnendahl‘s interest in electronic media and the ensuing attempt of a continuous redefinition of his personal self-conception led to compositions that incorporate technological aids such as computers, fixed media, video and live electronics. Finnendahl is professor for composition, from 2004 initially at Musikhochschule Freiburg, and since 2013 at Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.

Biography

Composer, researcher and teacher, Marco Stroppa (Verona, 1959) studied music in Italy (piano, composition, electronic music). To grasp how computers “think”, he pursued research in computer science, cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence at MIT’s Media Laboratory (1984-86). In 1980 he composed Traiettoria, which immediately met with great success. In 1982 Pierre Boulez invited him to IRCAM (Paris). This uninterrupted association has been crucial to his musical growth. A highly respected educator, Stroppa founded the course of composition and computer music at the Bartók Festival (Szombathély, Hungary), where he taught for 13 years. In 1999, after teaching at the CNSMD (Paris), he became professor of composition at the Music University in Stuttgart, the successor of H. Lachenmann. He developed the libraries OMChroma and OMChant, which allow for the compositional control of sound synthesis. He also invented the term “acoustic totem”, a cluster of loudspeakers for the composition of the radiation patterns of a sound source. This totem is the soloist of the first concerto for solo electronics and orchestra (Come Play with me), premiered in Donaueschingen in 2019 and in Paris in June 2022. Stroppa wrote over 50 essays about his music and scientific research. In 2019, Musik-Konzepte, the renowned musicology revue, dedicated its Vol. 186 to him, under the supervision of Dr. E. Ungeheuer. In 2019-20, Stroppa was a fellow of the prestigious Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin.

Biography

Eduardo Valiente is a composer and pianist born in Toledo in 1992, he is currently member of the Prof. Marco Stroppa's composition class at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst of Stuttgart, where he continues his Konzertexamen studies. His main mentors in the field of composition have been figures such as José María Sánchez-Verdú, Carlo Forlivesi, Édith Canat de Chizy or Ramon Humet. His works have been performed by ensembles like BCN216, conducted by Nacho de Paz, Francesc Prat or Christof Löser. As a pianist, he specialized in the contemporary music repertoire guided by Prof. Nicolas Hodges.

Biography

Andreas Papakostas Smyris is a composer born in Greece. In his latest projects, he works with instruments and electronics, and his focus lies on the symbiosis of these two elements. He has acquired a Bachelor degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) and he is currently studying Master's in Composition with Marco Stroppa at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart (Germany). He also plays the flute.

Biography

Bengisu Önder Born into a musician family, she started her first music lesson, learning piano from her father, composer Burhan Önder. She continued her piano studies at Ankara State Conservatory. In 2016 she was an Erasmus student at Frederic Chopin University of Music (FCUM) in Warsaw. During her year in FCUM, she took elective preparatory lessons for composition. After her graduation with honours from Ankara Conservatory, she was accepted to study composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart in the class of Prof. Marco Stroppa. In 2020 and 2021 she was an active participant in IRCAM Forum Paris as a representative student of HMDK Stuttgart. At the moment, she continues her Bachelor studies and for 2021-2022 concert season she is a one-year-academist at SWR Vokalensemble Akademie.

Kian Jazayeri

Biography

Kian Jazayeri (born 1988), Studied piano at age 7 until 10.
2010
Began BA degree at Tehran Azad University’s Architecture & Arts faculty with piano as main instrument under its renowned lecturers.
2018
Studied under Dr. Kiawash Sahebnasagh and Mehdi Kazerouni composition, contemporary music analysis and electronic music with emphasis on the Max Msp application.
2019
In collaboration with some other young musicians took part in the 1398 Project under acclaimed professors and, at the same time, worked with the Yarava group.
2020
Entered the Tehran University of Arts MA course, studying under Dr. Tahriri and, at the same time, taking private lessons in his electronic composition class using the CSound software.

Biography

Ramtin Mokhtari Born on January 22, 1996. From the age of 9, he studied piano with masters such as Ms. Tamara Dolidze, Ms. Hakim ova, and Mr. Minaskanian. Performed in Rudaki Hall with Barbad Orchestra as a pianist. Performed with the Sari Philharmonic Orchestra as an pianist. Numerous piano recitals at Tehran University of Arts. Holds a bachelor's degree in composition from Tehran University of Arts. Currently a master student of composition at Tehran University of Arts.

Deshne dar dis

“Deshne dar dis” refers to a poetry book written by ahmad shamloo. An excerpt of shamloo’s recorded voice has been juxtaposed with electroaqustic sounds. The story of poetry is based on the siahkal incident. my approach was to attain a rendition of the text to something bethveen music-theatre and radio drama.

Mohamadreza Rajabi

Biography

Mohamadreza Rajabi (b.1988) is an Iranian composer and performer and artist-researcher. He is currently studying M.Mus. composition in university of Tehran. As a collaborative pianist he took many concerts with esnembles. He pursued composition studies with kiawasch sahebnasagh and has wrote prolific repertoire of chamber and solo music recorded by musicians. Rajabi’s music was inspired early by those composers who are known under the rubric New Complexity (James Dillon, Brian Ferneyhough, Richard Barret, and Michael Finnissy). However, in 2021, he developed his own unique compositional method under Amin Honarmand and Sara Abazari. An interest in electronic music led him to prepare the work, prelude, for Tehran international electronic music festival.

Panic Attack

The “Panic Attack” musical piece (which is written for flute, cello, and electronics) is an attempt to
capture and depict the panic attack experience.
In general, the instrumental parts are used to represent the daily life of a person experiencing panic
attacks. On the contrary, the electronic parts indicate the timing of those attacks.
The initial attacks in the electronic represent a tragic incident. Whenever we hear these attacks with a
lower volume, it means that the significance of the occurred incident is less, compared to the previous
one. However, the panic attack experience is more intense; to the extent that the panic attacks occur
without any evident incident which dissolves a person’s life within themselves.

Sahar Helmi

Biography

Sahar Helmi was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. She is pursuing her master's degree in Music Composition at the Tehran University of Art, where she also obtained her B.A. degree in classical music composition. One of her string quartets premiered at the Tehran University of Art in 2019. Sahar also performed as an alto singer in a choir as a part of the Carmina Burana Concert in Vahdat Hall, conducted by Ali Rahbari.

Tanbur and Electronic

At first, the character of the Tanbur is dimmed by the effects that most affected the frequency.
Then, after passing the introduction, its personality becomes clearer and the effects are less.
In the introduction, tanbur plays in “Sar Tarz Magham”.
The same Magham is enveloped at 32:02 in a different register with a different character with
electronics.
At the main climax of the piece, electronic sounds are placed next to the tanbur with greatness.
And after the climax, we have the ‘’Panjeh kari” technique without the accompaniment of electronic
sounds.

Erfan Javadi

Biography

From early childhood until 2017, he learned music on his own and gained a lot of experiences. In 2017-18 he received a diploma in music (Classical singing) Since 2019 he is studying Composition at Tehran University of Art He has recorded several pieces in Iran and He is learning and experiencing different things in music. He is also active in the field of music teaching.

Hopefusion

Hope, Confusion; Two concepts that are merged together for Iranian individuals so they are difficult to be separated. We have them all from the innermost part of us to the whole system of our society. The farrago of Persian identity, Modern and Traditional values have made us who we are today. 

“Hopefusion” is created by utilizing Iranian identity signs. Footages were filmed, using a camera (DSLR) and mobile, and edited (in 23.976 fps) by the creator.

In music structure, three audio sources are used. Ambient sounds like street sounds are combined and processed with acoustic instruments (clarinet, violin, and setar) and synthesizers.

Pouria Lachini

Biography

Pouria Lachini (Born 1994, Tehran) is a master student of composition at University of Tehran. As a teenager, he started playing music by learning violin. He took courses in music form, harmony and counterpoint with Mohammadreza Tafazzoli and Mohsen Elhamian. In orchestration he used the presence of Amin Honarmand, Nader Mashayekhi and Aliakbar Ghorbani. He started learning composition with Ehsan Saboohi and continued for short period of time with Amir Alavi in University of Art. In University of Tehran he continued his studies in composition with Majid Tahriri and Amin Honarmand and during this time he also benefited from the guidance of Sara Abazari. Over the past years he has written several pieces for solo piano, solo viola, string quartet, trio for clarinet, piano and violin, quartet for flute, bassoon, cello and piano and two pieces for orchestra. He also participated in forth Tehran international music festival with the piece, “SODOM”.
